6 Steps to Achieve Stunning Calligraphy with Finetec Coliro Pearlcolors

In the last couple of weeks, I've been asked a few times how to use Finetec Coliro inks. So I've written down some easy-to-follow steps to get the best results out of these little pots of wonder.

So, let's have a look first at what Finetec Coliro Pearlcolors are.⁣

Finetec Coliro colours are handmade by a Germany-based family business, each colour is created from natural Mica Pigments - a stone mineral ground into a powder that doesn’t oxidize, and Gum Arabic - a natural product made of the hardened sap of the Acacia tree, that offers an excellent water solubility. Finetec Coliro Pearlcolours are also totally free of animal ingredients.

Finetec has developed a new colour recipe in collaboration with professional artists and calligraphers, to achieve a great solubility, that's why they work extremely well and, are suitable for use with conventional nibs, brushes, and even glass pens.

Please note as the German brand says "Finetec Coliro Pearlcolour never comes in black square pots".

So, how do you get the best result out of them?

I've written down 6 easy steps on how to use your colour pots

  1. Add a few drops of water to your chosen colour.

  2. Use a paintbrush to stir the water and mix it with the colour, let it sit for a few minutes before using it.

  3. Depending on the consistency, slowly add a few more drops of water and stir it again until you achieve a light-cream like consistency.

  4. Use a brush to add the ink to the nib.

  5. Test it out on a separate piece of paper to make sure the ink runs smoothly, repeat step 3 and 4 if necessary.

  6. If you feel that have added too much water, leave it open for a few hours to allow water evaporation.

Always test it first on a small piece of paper before you start writing on your desired media.

Most of Finetec Coliro Pearlcolors show up vibrantly on both dark and light papers,

While the Shimmer Pearlcolors show better on dark papers.

When it comes to gold, The ultimate colour set is the "Gold and Silver" palette, as it comes with very intense and lighter shades of gold and a pod of silver ink.

There is a whole universe of colours and shades that you can create also by mixing them with each other.

I hope this helps and that you enjoy creating beautiful colourful works of art.
